There is no doubt that this technology will change construction forever, but as thousands of curious prospects begin to come in its becoming obvious that the cost to educate the public is going to be extensive. Everyone has so many questions but no one is really talking.

At first glance the idea of printing concrete seems easy, after all everyone has seen a 3D printer or CNC router tables; so where is the real mystery? As hundreds are anxious to simulate what theyve seen on YouTube, they do so with a very naive approach.

The idea of moving concrete with a computer controller isnt hard at all. Anyone with a CNC router table can rig up a funnel and some sprinkler pipe to simulate most of the that videos were beginning to see. And 90% quickly discover that the real mystery is in controlling and finishing the mud. Most of the people we speak to are fascinated by the idea, but nearly everyone dislikes the layer by layer look of the finished product. Even still, the idea of plastering the finished product is a viable solution, but the preference would be the ability to finish as you go and eliminate even more expense in an unnecessary step.

So while many CNC companies are just getting around to pouring their first bucket of mud through a funnel connected to a CNC table, and discovering the challenges of working with material that changes every minute. The real players are already working to engineer a way to provide a finish that doesnt require a crew of plasterers to come behind and make the finished product look good.

So even if you have a thousand hours to waste on figuring out the formula for mixing the right mud that will support itself without turning into a flat mess or falling over when trying to cantilever the third and fourth pass. The next step requires a team of engineers to design a troweling feature that can follow the printed path and rotate with every turn. This is where others generally lose interest because it requires a competent group of software and mechanical engineers that understand the dynamics of 5-axis robotics as well as the structural characteristics of building with mortar.

The Germans lead the pack right now in the industry, but they arent interested in selling what they have already built. Their business model is to provide services rather than sell their printing machine. Several Chinese companies are trying to cash in also, but to date; they havent shown anything more than pushing some mortar out of a 2-axis CNC table. All they have accomplished is linear printing rather than 3D printing as evidenced by their videos. The group that started most of this with the 3D printed castle is ahead of most, but still, have no solution for the undesirable finish that everyone is concerned about

Those that are a year or two into this know enough to recognize the challenges of managing a mechanical device that can rotate every corner and move in a manner that does not knock down the work that has been done in an attempt to trowel as-you-go; this is the real goal.

So now that weve shared a view of where this industry is at, lets take a look at who we are.

Our parent company,ITbotics, produces and pick and place robotics for industrial manufacturing as well as custom automation assembly systems for companies all around the world.

A year ago a client commissioned us to build a 3D mortar printer for printing statues and monuments. Our core competency was in building large-format XYZ systems as well as multi axis robotics automation so the contract didnt seem that out of line. However, printing mortar proved to be much more different than printing plastics, which we soon discovered.

A year later, weve discovered that companies are as far along as they say, but with the advent of our trowel as-you-go finishing system, we lead the market in 3D mortar printing.

We are currently under contract for three different types of concrete printing machines. We do not pre-build because so far, everyone has specific needs, and with the size of these machines, it would be impossible to show them. We approach each contract as we do our custom automation contracts.

Tell us what you want, the size you need, and any other special requests such as continual mixing batch plants, and we will quote the job. If you accept, we provide a production agreement and schedule your contract. A deposit of 35% is required at signing, 35% at mid-mark and the remaining balance upon completion.

When it comes to PCs and laptops, there is a huge market for refurbished hardware. After all, if the manufacturer can completely overhaul it and bring it back to its original factory condition, why not save a few hundred dollars and purchase a refurbished model rather than a new one? This business model can work on a select handful of products, such as computers, game consoles, etc.  On the other hand, there are also many products that dont work well with this business model. Take for instance smartphones or desktop printers; people simply dont find much use for the refurbished versions.

When it comes to 3D printers, there really hasnt been much of a market for refurbished products either, however, this may simply be caused by the limited availability of 2nd hand products. Consumer 3D printing has only been prominent for the past couple years, thus not too many people have yet had the desire to upgrade. We are finally beginning to see variations and improvement upon both FDM and SLA consumer level 3D printers, and with this, a second hand market for used hardware should open up.

Probably youve heard about the current trend of 3D printed homes. In Amsterdam a team is working on 3D printing a canal house, in China ten 3D printed houses have been built in a single day and in America the Contour Crafting team is also working on a quick way to 3D print houses. However, there wasnt really an opportunity yet for people to buy a 3D house printer, and BetAbram now wants to change this once and for all. The Slovenian company aims to release its first house printer this years July or August.

If you would like to buy the BetAbram P3 printer yourself, it would however cost you 12,000 euros. Nevertheless, the P3 is the cheapest of its kind. The Slovenian company additionally wants to release two other 3D house printers in September of this year, called the P2 and P1. They will be sold for approx. 20,000 euros (P2) and approx. 32,000 euros (P1). These house printer will enable users to print out larger houses. The P3 can print out 12 square meter houses, while the P2 can create 72 square meter houses and the P1 can even build 144 square meter houses.

The technique of 3D printing houses can have a big impact on the field of construction, which will likely become a more computer-controlled world. This could lead to a loss of construction jobs, but it also has many advantages. One if the core benefits is that its relatively cheap to 3D print your own house. This could help construction workers to rapidly build cheap houses in the Third World, leading to a possible decrease of homeless people.

Business analysts have been predicting some rapid growth in the 3D printing industry for several months now, and for the most part sales trends this year have been giving those predictions a lot of weight. According to the technology research and advisory firmGartner Inc.,worldwide 3D printer shipments are expected to exceed 496,475 units by the end of 2016. That is an increase of 103% over the predicted 244,533 units that are expected to be shipped by the end of 2015. According to anew forecast report from Gartner, they expect 3D printer sales to more than double every year until 2019 when they predict worldwide shipments will climb to more than 5.6 million units.

Of the seven types of 3D printing technologies that currently dominate the 3D printer market it is little surprise that the leading process will remain material extrusion or FDM 3D printers for the foreseeable future. In 2015, FDM 3D printers are expected to account for a whopping 232,336 of the 244,533 units expected to be sold this year. By 2019 that number is expected to jump up to 5,527,493 units, a massive 97.5% of all printers sold. That number is mostly due to a massive and unexpected uptick insales for low cost, entry-level 3D printersbeing sold to homes and small businesses.

Things are looking up for low-cost 3D printers.

Gartner specifically notes that 3D printer prices will be playing an ever increasing role in which units are purchased by new or inexperienced users. As you would expect, sub-$1,000 3D printers and 3D printers priced between $1,001 and $2,500 remain the two most popular price points in the market. Currently, units costing less than $1,000 make up about 25.5% of all 3D printers sold at those two prices points combined. However, by 2019 sub-$1,000 3D printers are expected to make up 40.7% of units sold for all printers under $2,500.

Rapid quality and performance innovations across all 3D printer technologies are driving both enterprise and consumer demand, with unit shipment growth rates for 3D printers increasing significantly. The 3D printer market is continuing its transformation from a niche market to broad-based, global market of enterprises and consumers, said Gartner research vice president Pete Basiliere.

While weve seen several new 3D printing processes being adapted to the desktop market, clearly extrusion driven 3D printers are going to be the industry standard for the next few years. Because 3D printers priced below $2,500 are almost all extrusion driven 3D printers, it is clear cost is an important factor in that dominance. However it is likely that material cost will be playing a significant role in those sales as well. Especially as filament prices continue to drop as an increasing number of manufacturers vie for market dominance and develop a greater number of specialty materials.

While sales to makers and the hobbyist market are expected to remain strong, the primary reason for the huge jump in sales of 3D printers priced under $2,500 is expected to be purchases made by schools and universities. The low buy-in cost and ease of use make them particularly attractive for educational uses. Just as the growing ability of FDM 3D printers to produce finished-piece quality objects and a more varied range of filament types will drive an increase in small businesses opting to purchase lower cost alternatives.

Enterprise 3D printers can not only prototype new products and produce tools and fixtures that are used to make other items, but also print high-quality, short-run finished goods. This multifaceted ability is driving their growth worldwide, continued Basiliere.

Currently the most expensive 3D printing process is directed-energy deposition printers like electron beam melting (EMB) printers, which are used primarily for industrial and aerospace applications. After metal 3D printing, powder bed fusion 3D printing processes like selective laser sintering (SLS) or selective laser melting carry the second most expensive price tags. Price points in these areas are expected to remain relatively unchanged for the next few years, which will price them well beyond reach of the desktop market.

Concrete Printing Is it a new industry?

As the world is slowly learning about 3D Printed Castles, and similar videos that are beginning to go viral. Entrepreneurs all over the world are both fascinated and enamored with thoughts of potential possibilities. There is no doubt that this technology will change construction forever, but as thousands of curious prospects begin to come in its becoming obvious that the cost to educate the public is going to be extensive. Everyone has so many questions but no one is really talking.

At first glance the idea of printing concrete seems easy, after all everyone has seen a 3D printer or CNC router tables; so where is the real mystery? As hundreds are anxious to simulate what theyve seen on YouTube, they do so with a very naive approach.

The idea of moving concrete with a computer controller isnt hard at all. Anyone with a CNC router table can rig up a funnel and some sprinkler pipe to simulate most of the that videos were beginning to see. And 90% quickly discover that the real mystery is in controlling and finishing the mud. Most of the people we speak to are fascinated by the idea, but nearly everyone dislikes the layer by layer look of the finished product. Even still, the idea of plastering the finished product is a viable solution, but the preference would be the ability to finish as you go and eliminate even more expense in an unnecessary step.

So while many CNC companies are just getting around to pouring their first bucket of mud through a funnel connected to a CNC table, and discovering the challenges of working with material that changes every minute. The real players are already working to engineer a way to provide a finish that doesnt require a crew of plasterers to come behind and make the finished product look good.

So even if you have a thousand hours to waste on figuring out the formula for mixing the right mud that will support itself without turning into a flat mess or falling over when trying to cantilever the third and fourth pass. The next step requires a team of engineers to design a troweling feature that can follow the printed path and rotate with every turn. This is where others generally lose interest because it requires a competent group of software and mechanical engineers that understand the dynamics of 5-axis robotics as well as the structural characteristics of building with mortar.

The Germans lead the pack right now in the industry, but they arent interested in selling what they have already built. Their business model is to provide services rather than sell their printing machine. Several Chinese companies are trying to cash in also, but to date; they havent shown anything more than pushing some mortar out of a 2-axis CNC table. All they have accomplished is linear printing rather than 3D printing as evidenced by their videos. The group that started most of this with the 3D printed castle is ahead of most, but still, have no solution for the undesirable finish that everyone is concerned about

Those that are a year or two into this know enough to recognize the challenges of managing a mechanical device that can rotate every corner and move in a manner that does not knock down the work that has been done in an attempt to trowel as-you-go; this is the real goal.

So now that weve shared a view of where this industry is at, lets take a look at who we are.

Our parent company,ITbotics, produces and pick and place robotics for industrial manufacturing as well as custom automation assembly systems for companies all around the world.

A year ago a client commissioned us to build a 3D mortar printer for printing statues and monuments. Our core competency was in building large-format XYZ systems as well as multi axis robotics automation so the contract didnt seem that out of line. However, printing mortar proved to be much more different than printing plastics, which we soon discovered.

A year later, weve discovered that companies are as far along as they say, but with the advent of our trowel as-you-go finishing system, we lead the market in 3D mortar printing.

We are currently under contract for three different types of concrete printing machines. We do not pre-build because so far, everyone has specific needs, and with the size of these machines, it would be impossible to show them. We approach each contract as we do our custom automation contracts.

Tell us what you want, the size you need, and any other special requests such as continual mixing batch plants, and we will quote the job. If you accept, we provide a production agreement and schedule your contract. A deposit of 35% is required at signing, 35% at mid-mark and the remaining balance upon completion.
